| Our Engagement Story!
First week in December 2007Eric met up with my parents and asked for their blessing to marry me...but he didn't say when or what he planned to do! The week of January 5th, 2008Eric recruits some of our friends to be involved in our engagement day. They wrap gifts, plan out where they are going to stand, where to hide, camera angles, positions, etc. Destination 0: Melodee’s House (3:45pm) Valerie Ng (camcorder woman) & Andrew Liu (camera man) arrive at my house and leave a box on my front doorstep. They arrange themselves into place…and then the fun begins! Andrew rings the doorbell and knocks loudly to make sure I hear it. I peek out the window of my front door to see who it is but I don’t see anyone there…so I walk away. The paparazzi notice no one answers the door so they go for round two. Again Andrew rings the doorbell and knocks loudly to make sure I hear it this time. I head back to the front door, open it, and walk outside to see who it was that was knocking so obnoxiously. I peer around the porch to find nobody there, except for a neatly wrapped box on my doorstep that had a tag that read: “To Mel (open me now)!” It took me a while to open the box because I wasn’t sure who left it and what was in there…so hesitantly, I open the box. It was a GPS Navigation system with the following instructions… You must leave your house within 5 minutes of reading this message! Directions: Flip open cover on back. Hold down power button on top right. Click “where to” => favorites => 1 => go. Drive to destination 1 and enter. Wait for further instruction. I follow the instructions and drive to destination 1.
Destination 1: Olive Garden in Torrance (around 4:20pm) GPS lead me to our favorite Italian Restaurant, The Olive Garden in Torrance. I entered the restaurant and was about to ask one of the waitresses if an Eric had reserved dinner for two until I spotted a familiar face sitting at one of the waiting tables on the left. Karen Lee was sitting there and handed me another neatly wrapped box with the same wrapping paper as the first box found on my doorstep. I opened the box and found our first ever picture taken together at an AACF retreat back in December 2002 in a cute small black frame. She then gave me a new set of instructions: to press “destination 2” on the GPS system.
Destination 2: Dolphin Park in Redondo Beach (around 4:45pm)I arrive at Dolphin Park in Torrance Beach thinking back to the day Eric and I ran together along the bike path. I find a parking space alongside the road and get out of the car not knowing where to go or what I was going to find… so I headed to one of the benches at Dolphin Park to see if someone was going to maybe pop out and surprise me again. Haha. As I walked closer to the park, I notice someone very mysterious looking…they were in the middle of the park in a long black trench coat holding an umbrella. I walked closer to see who the person was or what in the world they were doing there alone…and why the umbrella when it wasn’t raining!?! To my surprise… I walk closer to find that the mysterious person was Kristen Ng!! She gave me a long stem rose and .75 cents. Her instructions to me were to press “destination 3” on the GPS system and I would know what to do with the .75 cents when I get there.
Destination 3: Manhattan Beach Pier (around 5:10 pm)The GPS took me to the Manhattan Beach Pier. I realized that there was only metered parking…and that was what the .75 cents was used for. I walked out to the end of the pier where Eric was anxiously awaiting… out popped Eric with a huge smile. I ran up and hugged him and didn’t want to let him go. I felt my eyes start to water a little but I held them back. Then…(drum roll please!) Eric got down on one knee...opened up a small box containing a sparkly diamond ring...and asked “Will you marry me?” AhhHH!!! I said “YES!!!!!!!” As I looked up I was surprised to see a group of friends and strangers that were fishing off of the pier. Everybody (fisherman too) then yelled, screamed and clapped.
Guess what!?! I no longer have a boyfriend….I now have a fiance!!
Big THANKS! to everyone that took part in this treasure hunt

| How well do you really know me? hehe...this is pretty cool! Check this out... then do your own The Johari Window was invented by Joseph Luft and Harrington Ingham in the 1950s as a model for mapping personality awareness. By describing yourself from a fixed list of adjectives, then asking your friends and colleagues to describe you from the same list, a grid of overlap and difference can be built up. You can get your own Johari Window, or contribute to Melodee Yee's. |
